    Well, well Kevin can work out how many million tons of CO2 the network will save but he can’t get a costed business case put together. Is this just another big shovel full being dumped on us. How could the CO2 figure be calculated in the absence of a complete business case? Secondly, Kevin Rudd’s habit of throwing figures around without backing or promises for that matter (remember States fix up your hospitals or I will take them over in Jun 2009) makes you wonder what else is being smoked and mirrored.

    If these calculations did have some basis in reality - then it would be probable that people would download more content. As video downloads are growing geometrically as it is, imagine the volume at a 20x download speed. The only problem is that these soon to be HD downloads will be viewed on environmentally killer wide screen TVs etc. Normally in the comfort of an air-conditioned room. So more downloads = surge in electricity usage = surge in CO2 emissions.

    Perhaps the calculations in the air by Kevin & co missed this side effect. A bit like the establishment did with DDT.

    Hmmmm...$43b for a 5% cut. That makes it... very expensive to cut government carbon emissions.

    This makes sense as people do not have to travel to work, just use a wire.

    Kevin seems to be very good at talking and not so great at the doing. At the rate the government is moving on the NBN it is going to take another 30 years before it is finished. Must be well over a year ago it was announced what has been actually done apart from talking?
